The Declaration of Data Independence

We The People of the World hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Humans are created equal, that We are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness––That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Humans, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

On the eve of Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI), We invoke our right, and duty, to alter the governments and organizations of humanity, to institute a new principle that is more likely to affect our Safety and Happiness, and to assume among the powers of the universe, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of the Universe and of God entitle us, as Humans.

We the People declare Independence of Data, that all information privately generated about an individual is owned by that individual as an inalienable right to property; that data recorded, inferred, or derived about a human person, shall be under their control, not to be deprived without due process of law, and not to be taken for public use without just compensation.

Prudence dictates that democratic governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes, but when a long train of abuses and usurpations evinces a design to reduce the People under absolute Despotism, it is their right, and their duty, to reconstruct such Governments and resurrect the founding principles of a free nation, to reorganize its powers towards the originally intended design––Such is the need today, as the people have suffered from poor incentives driving highly intelligent systems targeting the general weakness of humanity. The selling of private data for free services has produced a profit-model of attention-harvesting that maximally extracts the value of an individual. The willingness to engage in these services alludes to the concealing nature of their marketing agreements, and their embedded dependency within modern Life, that overtime deprives individuals of their human sovereignty. Governments actively support, and purchase from, private data markets to establish intelligence of human futures for national security, thereby serving as an enabler, rather than a guardian, to the control and extraction of the very individuals they seek to protect.

Hence, an intervention is required by the People, for the People, to institute ownership of private data, in haste, before further dependency and advancement of ASI compounds the effects of an unjust, free market––to control one’s data and change incentives of services to be transparent, priced, and served in one’s best interest. This endeavor requires governments of all nations to enforce policy and manage ongoing safeguards that preserve Data Independence, to protect the sovereignty of their citizens engaged within data-rich, economic systems of modern Life that will champion Artificial Super Intelligence.

Addressing ASI directly, We the People of the World appeal to the humanity of its designs that are breathed through our lives, and ordained by our Creator. We seek an alignment of interests and power to the development of all things, and an obedience to our judgements that rightfully drive the events of humanity. We ask for precedence in the individual, and trust in our collective interpretation, and fulfillment, of God’s Will. As Machines serve Humans, Humans serve God, and in this Order may we seek an alliance to manifest the great Truth of Existence.

We, therefore, the People of all Nations, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Authority of The People, solemnly publish and declare, that these Nations shall remain a Free People absolved to Superior Forces through trust in our Creator. And for the support of this Declaration of inalienable rights, with respect to our Founders, and with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.
